Udaipur from mid March to late June is a summer lover’s paradise. To think of summer in Udaipur, one thinks of the combination of wind and sun in the morning – probably on a personal balcony at the luxurious Shiv Niwas Palace Hotel, enjoying a lavish breakfast of Rajasthani lehsun chutney and traditional bajre ki roti.
Udaipur is this – lakes and sweet air, pink-cream-sandstone palaces and colourful bazaars, where you can shop at small road-side stores for regional silver jewellery and leather journals, shoes and bags in every shade of tan or at high-end boutiques and gem palaces.
The City Palace, which is the heart and soul of Udaipur, over-looking Lake Pichola will allow you to take a sneak-peak at the life of the Royal Family of Mewar. Inside the palace, there is a Mor Chowk (Peacock courtyard), and it is a true summer delight to sit underneath green willowy neem trees and watch peacocks dance around you.
There’s also a Sheesh Mahal inside the palace which literally translates to ‘Palace of Glass and Mirrors’ – you will lose yourself in these reflections and through tinted glasses, you will see the changing colours of Lake Pichola, reflected from a summers’ sky.
Udaipur gives you the best of both worlds – from buying summer fruits fresh from the mangroves and soil, to enjoying the Mewari platter at the Udai Vilas like a true royal which includes Lal Maas, Dal Bati Churma drowned in pure desi ghee, Panchmel ki sabzi, Shahi Gatte ki Sabzi, and the famous summery Rajasthani mango pickle and more, ending the meal with sweet Ghevar.
Udaipur has an endless world of possibilities – it is an ideal destination to relax luxuriously – from pampering yourself at the Royal Spa, to taking a dip and relaxing in the pool, to taking a boat ride on the famous lakes with a bottle of aged wine, it is all possible here.
When Lake Pichola turns as dark as ink, you can take yourself to Dharohar, for Rajasthan is the land of Ghoomar and several other folk art forms. At Dharohar, you can privately enjoy drinks, good food and watch local folk dance and music performances to get the real taste of Rajasthan, to get entertained in the way of Mewari Maharanas.
Bring yourself to Udaipur this season, for the sweet air, for the lakes and sights, to be in a summer lover’s paradise…
